We have scored our best ever share of the vote at a parliamentary eleciton in the Wakefield by-election, winning 4.3% - more than the Lib Dems and Greens combined.
Following on from the mayoral elections in South and West Yorkshire last year and this, where the we finished ahead of the Lib Dems and Greens in both, this result reconfirms the Yorkshire Party's natural base in the county as behind only Labour and the Tories.
Commenting on the election, the our candidate, David Herdson, said "This is a tremendous vindication of the positive campaign we ran; of our message of a stronger Yorkshire in a fairer United Kingdom, of my focus on tackling the housing crisis. In a crowded field of 15 candidates, to again beat all but two parties, along with a well known independent, is a great result and shows the Party's support is growing as more and more people find out about us."
"Once again we have beaten established parties who have larger resources and a bigger media following."
"Thank you to everyone who voted for us, or listened to our argument for a better Wakefield in a fairer Yorkshire."
Getting a larger vote share than Labour did in the Tiverton by Election, which was held on the same day, is a vindication of a well planned campaign executed to professional standards.
We are cementing our position as Yorkshire's 3rd party - the only alternative to the big two London centric parties.
