Bob Buxton has become the Yorkshire Party candidate for the inaugural West Yorkshire Mayor election, expected in May 2021. He became Yorkshire Party leader in May this year and stood in the last three General Elections.
Dr Buxton said: “We will campaign on a platform of fighting for stronger, better-funded devolution for Yorkshire – OneYorkshire devolution. Should a much lesser form of devolution be forced through, we will work hard to make the most of the limited powers and budget on offer to improve West Yorkshire’s transport, housing, education, environment, health and much more besides.”
“We listen to local people. Expect to see Yorkshire Party street stalls throughout West Yorkshire as early as September, asking for your views to help shape our policies - dependent on what Covid-19 restrictions are necessary since safety comes before politics.”
“We are the party of Yorkshire. A Yorkshire Party mayor will have no Westminster interference. No hidden agenda. If elected, I will work passionately to improve the region we live in and love, to deliver what the people of West Yorkshire tell me they want.”
The Yorkshire Party is offering free trial membership until the end of August. “We need to build an army to beat the London-based parties. We need to inspire people to join the battle to make Yorkshire’s voice heard, to say ‘we don’t accept the pittance of devolution on offer and we certainly won’t reward the Tories for it.’ We can win: It’s time for Yorkshire.”

I have been reading your mayoral plans and note that you would appoint Deputy Mayor for Police and Crime. This is part of the mayoral remit and as one of the jobs of the Mayor is reflected in your salary. If this part of the job is to be handed over to someone else, will the salary for the deputy Mayor be deducted from your own salary, or taken from the budget . Someone less trusting than me might think this smacks as “jobs for the boys.” Your answer could help me make a decision on 6th May.
Hi there Patricia,
The salary is deducted from the Mayoral budget, there is a set budget for all of the Mayor’s staff (for example, a secretary) so appointing a deputy mayor wouldn’t result in the public purse losing out.
Hi there –
We support a whole host of sustainable transport, if elected one of the first things Bob will do is launch a full review into the current availability and future development of sustainable transport in West Yorkshire.
We want the most sustainable and highest quality transport

Motorways better singed, on m1,m62 roadworks 50 mph right at start, yet on m1 ju24a we had 4 juns before 40 mph no standedation, no waring on going to 50,40 mph yet on other roads you get 300 meters of change of speed, the jack on sides and middle leads to flooding and accidents, thus leads to government to manslaughter for unsafe roads.
