Responding to today’s (March 20, 2018) Electoral Commission decision to levy a variable monetary penalty on the party, Stewart Arnold , Leader of the Yorkshire Party, explained: “Last year, a member of the Yorkshire Party’s Executive Committee with responsibility for the party’s financial reporting fell ill. This illness unfortunately led to the party failing to comply with certain Electoral Commission technical requirements for financial reporting.
“As soon as the Electoral Commission alerted the Yorkshire Party to this issue, immediate action was taken to bring all required financial reports up-to-date, and we are continuing to work closely with the Electoral Commission to ensure this situation does not occur again.
“The Electoral Commission has recognised, when making a decision regarding this matter, that the Yorkshire Party gained no benefit from failing to comply with these financial reporting regulations. This was a purely technical matter, precipitated by the onset of the illness of a party member.
“We are continuing to provide support to the Executive Committee member directly affected by this illness, and we will be providing no further comment at this time.”
