Pressure continues to mount in support of One Yorkshire devolution.
A One Yorkshire Group set up by John Grogan, the Labour MP for Keighly and Ilkley, met in York and was attended by Yorkshire Party Councillor Mike Jordan.
The session followed a regular meeting of Yorkshire council leaders to co-ordinate further efforts to promote the desire for a single, simple deal for the whole of Yorkshire.
The meeting discussed how the various delegates could promote One Yorkshire and get clear commitment for the model from council leaders, the Local Enterprise Partnerships and the Northern Powerhouse partnership.
Mike, who represents South Selby on North Yorkshire County Council and Camblesforth and Carlton on Selby District Council, said a Yorkshire Day statement was prepared.
There was feedback from the council leaders’ meeting and details about the next North of England Annual Conference, which would be held in Liverpool in September.
“It is also likely that an early meeting with the new Prime Minister will be arranged, having had commitments in the press from both candidates.
“A new website specifically for the promotion of One Yorkshire will be launched on Yorkshire Day, August 1.”
John Grogan and Robert Goodwill, the Conservative MP for Scarborough and Whitby are the co-chairs of the One Yorkshire Committee. See the arguments they prepared to put to James Brokenshire, Communities Secretary, in March, in a Yorkshire Post article.
