The Yorkshire Party leadrship has praised its local election candidates and their support teams who steered the Party to its best election results.
“Thank you: We couldn’t have done it without your help,” the Party’s Executive committee wrote to members.
Many candidates scored fantastic results, including:
More than 1,500 votes for Cllr Bob Buxton in Guiseley and Rawdon – a new Yorkshire Party record for number of votes scored at a council election
Paul Phelps, the former Labour councillor, got 25% of the vote in Castleford and Glasshoughton – a ward we’ve never contested before
Tony Devoy got 27.5% of the vote for in the Barnsley North East ward – the best percentage result ever secured by a Yorkshire Party candidate in a single member election
However, arguably our biggest result, and the one you’re likely to hear about in the media over the coming weeks, was seen in the election for the first Mayor of the Sheffield City Region (South Yorkshire).
Our brilliant candidate, Mick Bower, scored 22,318 votes in the Mayoral election – almost 10% of the vote.
Mick’s stunning performance saw him place third in Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham – coming well ahead of the Liberal Democrats, Greens and other, smaller parties. In fact, in those three districts, Mick was only a few hundred votes off coming in second place.
With 22,318 votes, the Yorkshire Party on May 3 scored more votes in just South Yorkshire than we did last year in the General Election – where the whole of our region was up for election.
The Executive Committee wrote: “We would not have been able to achieve this result without the support you’ve given us. So, thank you.
“By supporting the Yorkshire Party, you’ve helped us secure our best ever election result – and have ensured the new Mayor of South Yorkshire, Dan Jarvis MP, is under no illusions that he must remain true to his campaign pledge to fight for One Yorkshire devolution.
“Our attentions now move towards building on the progress we’ve made in 2018, and ensuring that our party continues to drive the changes that our region needs.
“To do that though, we need help. With no big donors we are completely reliant on the support of individuals. So if you are able to donate, even if just £1, please click below. Every penny we receive goes towards supporting our party’s growth.”
