The Yorkshire Party has proved it’s a real force in local politics by snatching four seats on Selby Council.
Our success was topped by experienced local councillor Mike Jordan and running mate Paul Welburn in Camblesforth and Carlton, Mike’s daughter Ellie won in Byram and Brotherton, and Dave Brook was victorious in Sherburn-in-Elmet.
Celebrating the success at the Selby count, Yorkshire Party Leader Chris Whitwood spoke of his pride in the hard work of the local candidates and the Party’s campaigners over the past five years.
He told York-based Minster FM radio station: “We represent a positive and viable alternative to the Westminster parties.
“We want a greater voice for local communities, rather than having decisions made in Westminster.”
He said the Party would continue to raise the issue of inequality in key services such as schools and transport.
