Yorkshire should have devolution because it would enable local decision-making and increase accountability. Devolution would give more power to local authorities, allowing them to make decisions that are specific to the needs of the region. This could lead to better public services, improved economic growth, and targeted investment in infrastructure, education, and skills development. Currently, decisions about Yorkshire are made in Westminster, which can be detached from the needs and priorities of the region. Devolution would ensure that decisions are made by people who understand the region and its needs, leading to greater accountability. Devolution could also encourage greater civic engagement in local government and decision-making, building a stronger sense of community and shared identity in the region. Overall, devolution would provide Yorkshire with greater autonomy and control, enabling it to make decisions that are in the best interests of the region and its people.
