In the last twenty four hours Yorkshire First has secured its best ever set of election results.
Last May, Yorkshire First averaged about 3.5% in the Council seats we contested. This May, we fought more seats than ever before and our average vote surged to 8.6%.
In various contests around Yorkshire we have beaten candidates from every major political party - in Wakefield South our candidate Dan Cochran beat the Liberal Democrats, in Guiseley and Rawdon Dr Bob Buxton didn't just beat the Liberal Democrats and the Greens, he also secured hundreds more votes than Ukip, and in Cudworth Tony Devoy scored over twice as many votes as the Conservatives, securing Yorkshire First's first ever second place in a District Council election with over 17% of the vote.
There are many great results from this year, along with the ones mentioned above we've had fantastic scores in Calderdale, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield and Leeds. And who can forget Stevie Manion in the Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough Parliamentary by-election, who'd never been involved in politics before, but stood up to be counted and started the process of building a real Yorkshire First presence in Sheffield.
Our individual best result came from Mick Bower in Rotherham, who took on established Labour and Ukip Councillors in Sitwell ward and scored an amazing 25%, beating a Labour candidate and coming close to gaining a seat.
Today, we are in an incredibly strong position. And without our many members and volunteers, that wouldn't be possible.
But tomorrow, we need to start planning for an even better 2017. If you aren't already a member of Yorkshire First, would you join now? We're on the verge of a real breakthrough, but we need more members and more volunteers to turn these great results into amazing results. Membership only costs £2 a month - a bargain for a chance to change Yorkshire for the better! To sign up, click here.
