Stewart responds to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling’s comments on transport in the North

Leader of the Yorkshire Party, Stewart Arnold, has responded to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling's comments on transport in the NorthStewart Arnold said:"The Yorkshire Party is pleased the issue of investment in transport infrastructure is getting such a good airing at the moment. "However we are somewhat confused by Chris Grayling's comments in the Yorkshire Post today. He talks about the North 'taking control' of its transport. As we know responsibility only really comes with control of the budget. This is something Chris Grayling and his Government is unwilling to give to Yorkshire."The other point here is that it's not just transport infrastructure where there is an imbalance in spending and therefore performance between London and the North. This is true of spending on education and the arts, for example, where Yorkshire is left behind."Until the Government gives Yorkshire the ability to run its own affairs (within the UK) we remain sceptical that very much will change."

Stewart delights in announcing the Party will field 21 candidates in the forthcoming General Election. It was time to speak out for Yorkshire, he said.

The Yorkshire Party has announced its candidates to fight the General Election on June 8th.The party will fight 21 parliamentary seats across Yorkshire which is an increase of 50% on the number of candidates the party fought in 2015.Leader Stewart Arnold said today as nominations close:"To have 21 candidates in place with such short notice is an outstanding effort."The Yorkshire Party has a very diverse, talented group of candidates. Our youngest candidate is 19 which will probably make him the youngest candidate of any party in Yorkshire. The average age of our candidates is about 35. Around 20% of our candidates are LGBT and we have proportionally more women than before. I believe we have a strong team that goes a long way to represent the diversity of Yorkshire."Our candidates range from students, teachers, carers, businesspeople, retirees amongst others. They all bring different skills and experiences to the campaign. "All of the candidates are firmly linked to the constituencies they are standing in (there has been no parachuting into seats!) and are committed to representing their communities – above party – if elected. They won't hesitate to speak for their communities and for Yorkshire."The party will be launching it Manifesto 'Speaking up for Yorkshire' early next week.List of Yorkshire Party candidates and constituenciesDiana Wallis Haltemprice & HowdenTim Norman East YorkshireLee Walton Beverley & HoldernessBill Black Scarborough & WhitbyChris Pearson RichmondJack Render Skipton & RiponBob Buxton PudseyMatthew Clover Elmet & RothwellDanny Gascoigne Normanton, Pontefract, CastlefordJohn Otley Leeds EastEd Jones Leeds WestTess Seddon Leeds NEBikatshi Katenga HuddersfieldMartin Roberts HemsworthLucy Brown WakefieldStevie Manion Don ValleyChris Whitwood Doncaster CentralJack Carrington Sheffield CentralMick Bower RotherhamTony Devoy Barnsley EastCharlie Bridges Doncaster North
